What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a hands-on e-commerce operator with experience running and optimizing a Shopify site for an apparel or footwear brand. This person is a strong executor who moves quickly, sweats the details of the onsite experience, and knows how to turn insights into shipped improvements. They are comfortable working in a lean environment, partnering cross-functionally, and rolling up their sleeves to get things done. They use data to prioritize effectively, communicate clearly, and consistently improve conversion and customer experience.
Overview
The Director of Ecommerce will own the day-to-day execution and performance of our Shopify ecommerce business, driving revenue through best-in-class onsite experience, merchandising execution, and operational rigor. This is a hands-on role for a proven ecommerce operator who thrives in a smaller, fast-moving environment and knows how to turn traffic into sales.
This role does not own paid media or digital marketing but will work closely with Marketing to ensure the site converts efficiently and supports campaign execution.
Key Responsibilities
Ecommerce Performance & Execution
- Own daily, weekly, and monthly ecommerce performance across revenue, conversion rate, AOV, and onsite engagement
- Co-create and execute against the ecommerce roadmap, balancing quick wins with longer-term improvements
- Lead onsite testing and optimization to improve conversion and reduce friction
- Ensure flawless execution of product launches, promotions, and seasonal peaks
- Partner with Product Management and IT to deliver improvements efficiently
Digital Merchandising
- Lead onsite merchandising strategy and execution across navigation, collections, PDPs, PLPs, search, and recommendations
- Partner with Merchandising/Buying & Marketing to execute assortments, pricing, and promotions online
- Own product presentation standards, including imagery, copy, fit guidance, and sizing content
- Use data to optimize category performance, sell-through, and inventory exposure
Cross-Functional Execution
- Serve as the central point of accountability for Shoebacca.com across Marketing, Merchandising, Operations, and Customer Service
- Translate business needs into clear, actionable site requirements
- Partner with Fulfillment and Customer Service to address friction points impacting conversion and returns
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Monitor performance dashboards daily and respond quickly to trends or issues
- Analyze customer behavior to identify opportunities to improve conversion and AOV
- Share clear, actionable insights and execution plans with leadership
Qualifications
- 6–10 years of ecommerce experience, with ideally, significant hands-on ownership of a Shopify site
- Proven success driving onsite performance for an apparel or footwear brand
- Strong understanding of ecommerce merchandising best practices, especially for size- and fit-driven categories
- Experience working in lean, fast-paced environments with limited resources
- Highly execution-oriented, detail-driven, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scaling a Shopify business
- Familiarity with Shopify apps related to search, reviews, personalization, and CRO
- Understanding of returns, fit issues, and customer behavior in apparel/shoes
