Email Lifecycle Campaign Operations Manager, CNN Digital Products & Services
We are CNN. THE WORLD'S MOST ESSENTIAL AND ENGAGING SOURCE OF DIGITAL NEWS. We are in the midst of rapid transformation and need our next generation of innovators, makers, and dreamers who will lead and drive our growth. We aim to make the world a better, more connected place.
Your New Role…
We are looking for an Email Lifecycle Campaign Operations Manager who will own the end-to-end execution of our subscriber-focused email campaigns, including acquisition, winback, upsell, and onboarding. This role sits within Growth and Product Marketing and works closely with MarTech, Product Marketing, Creative, and Analytics to deliver targeted messages that spark engagement and drive conversions.
Email is one of our most important lifecycle channels, and we need someone who can think strategically, move quickly, and execute with accuracy and consistency. You are a hands-on operator who brings strategy to life in the inbox and delivers campaigns that drive meaningful performance. You blend technical ability with creative thinking and data fluency, and you know how to run a high-impact channel with precision and focus.
Your Role Accountabilities…
- Campaign Execution: Build, QA, and launch email campaigns across acquisition, onboarding, engagement, upsell, and winback. Translate creative concepts into templates, maintain recurring sends and automated journeys, and ensure every campaign is executed accurately and on time.
- Segmentation and Targeting: Manage segmentation logic, eligibility rules, suppressions, and frequency guidelines in Zeta. Keep targeting clean and reliable through recurring data checks and ongoing updates that support personalization and performance.
- Lifecycle Alignment: Coordinate email touchpoints with web and app surfaces in partnership with the Cross-Platform Manager and Director. Ensure email fits naturally into broader lifecycle journeys and supports moments that matter across the subscriber experience.
- QA and Testing: Lead QA across templates, logic, routing, tracking, segmentation, and rendering. Run A/B and multivariate tests, document learnings, and apply insights to improve channel performance and journey effectiveness.
- Insights and Reporting: Monitor channel performance and surface trends, anomalies, and opportunities. Partner with Analytics to understand key drivers, interpret results, and share actionable insights with stakeholders.
- Platform Enablement: Collaborate with MarTech to request enhancements, troubleshoot issues, and support capability planning. Help evaluate new platform features, identify workflow improvements, and contribute to documentation and governance.
- Workflow and Process Optimization: Streamline campaign operations by improving templates, updating modules, enhancing automation, and refining processes. Identify inefficiencies and propose solutions that increase speed, quality, and scalability.
Qualifications & Experience…
- Email Platform Expertise: 5-7 years of hands-on experience in email marketing operations, lifecycle marketing, or CRM campaign management within a consumer brand or subscription business. Experience with enterprise ESPs such as Zeta or Braze is strongly preferred.
- Project and Workflow Management: Proven ability to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Organized, adaptable, and comfortable navigating shifting priorities and tight timelines.
- Analytical Strength: Strong ability to interpret campaign data, uncover insights, and translate findings into actionable improvements. Familiarity with email KPIs, segmentation performance, and journey-level metrics.
- Technical Skills: Ability to write templating logic (e.g. Liquid) and comfort working with HTML and CSS modules. Understanding of how customer data attributes flow into the ESP and how that impacts targeting and personalization.
- QA and Detail Orientation: Demonstrated rigor in QA processes with a natural tendency to catch inconsistencies, edge cases, and data issues. Commitment to accuracy, compliance, deliverability, and brand standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Clear and proactive communicator who can work effectively with Product Marketing, Creative, MarTech, Growth Product, and Analytics. Able to synthesize technical details into clear recommendations.
- Curiosity and Problem Solving: Strong desire to understand how systems work, investigate issues, and improve workflows. Open to new tools, testing approaches, and platform features that strengthen performance and scalability.
- Bonus Experience: Familiarity with deep linking, mobile routing, AppsFlyer, CDP platforms, or subscription lifecycle programs.
