Job Title: Marketing & Communications Specialist.

Status: Full-time reports to Development Director Salary: $40,000 per year plus Benefits.

JOB SUMMARY

The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports all aspects of external and internal outreach and exposure to the organization. Duties include working closely with the Development Director, Executive Director, and Program Departments to support the marketing and communications of programs, development campaigns, and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties and responsibilities are those considered to be essential but do not represent all job functions that may be required to be performed by this position. Other comparable duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Infrequent evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Work collaboratively with staff to increase community awareness of high-quality programs/events which benefit military members and their families.
  • Fulfill program and special event responsibilities identified by supervisor.
  • Maintain the organizational presence through the website and social media networks. Serve as the staff member responsible for ensuring online presence is current and accurate, including but not limited to updates for events, programs, photo albums, etc.
  • Develop and implement strategies that drive website traffic and improve online visibility.
  • Develop organizational print materials including but not limited to: brochures, event and program flyers, newsletters, and mailers.
  • Support organization social media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • 40 hours per week with a minimum of 20-30 hours of in-office work.

INTERACTION

The position will provide information to ASYMCA staff, program participants, volunteers, and partners.

EDUCATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Minimum: At least two years of college-level coursework with an emphasis in communications, marketing, or a related field or a comparable course of study, and two years of experience in web design and management across all social media platforms.

Any combination of education and work experience that would be equivalent to the stated minimum requirements would qualify for consideration for this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Professional demeanor with an aptitude for analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Responsible, well organized, and demonstrates initiative.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365, CANVA, Adobe Creative Cloud, Meta, Constant Contact, Word Press, and other platforms as needed.
  • Must be accurate and detail-oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Standard office equipment and machines such as telephones, personal computers, and multi-function copy machines.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the organization’s insurance carrier standards.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Work in an office setting with occasional local travel.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel and use hands, arms and legs for dexterity, balance and climb stairs frequently. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, and balance objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Pulls and pushes such objects as file drawers and supplies.
  • Prioritizes and multitasks across projects requiring strong memory, concentration, and analytical thinking.
  • Occasionally required to perform the safe operation of office equipment and machines and recognize and abate safety hazards within the workplace.
  • Must be able to hear, see including peripheral vision and distinction of colors, read and communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and origins.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Priority shall be given to providing programs and services for junior enlisted personnel, both single and married, and their family members. The focus of work shall be in three areas - youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Services may be provided to military personnel other than junior enlisted where resources are available. Programs and services shall be designed to complement and supplement those provided by the Armed Services, either on or off military installations as appropriate.
