The Marketing Strategist is a vital member of NAIT’s centralized marketing and communications team, driving success across key priorities in the Strategic Plan. They support institutional goals related to brand, reputation, recruitment, and business development through strategic marketing expertise and strong relationship-building. Recognized as trusted advisors, Marketing Strategists bring deep understanding of client priorities, offer external marketing perspectives, and identify opportunities that deliver results while enhancing NAIT’s brand and reputation.
Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, this role collaborates closely with stakeholders in the JR Shaw School of Business, School of Media and IT, and School of Energy and Natural Resources. The Marketing Strategist manages project intake from these areas, coordinating with other M&C units to plan resources effectively.

- *Key Responsibilities**:
Strategy Development, Project Planning, and Client Management
- Provides strategic marketing counsel, including identifying opportunities, analyzing challenges and seeking creative solutions. Become a member of the client’s leadership team and be the SME within the Marketing and Communications Department for the client area.
- Decipher business challenges/opportunities and advising on the marketing solution/strategy and considering brand and reputation risks in the external environment.
- Work closely with internal clients to build integrated marketing and lead generation programs to support existing and new opportunities.
- Audit current marketing strategies and work with clients to identify target audiences, objectives, key messages and uses best practice to achieve strategic marketing goals.
- Leverage existing data and information on personas, customer journeys and segmenting target audiences in order to deliver personalized marketing and brand experiences.
- Operate with a design-thinking mindset, put yourself in the shoes of our students, customers and end-users in order to engage them seamlessly across all marketing touch points.
- Identifies opportunities across paid, earned and owned media that support NAIT's business goals
- Write strategic marketing plans, identifying trends to ensure competitive positioning.
- Manage project and marketing budgets effectively
Execution and Optimization
- Coordinate with our external media buying partner in the execution of traditional marketing tactics that include out-of-home advertising (billboards, transit, etc.), print, radio, and audio.
- Coordinate and bring together cross-functional teams as needed. Work closely with web, brand and communications colleagues, to maintain quality control and ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
- Critically analyze and optimize digital marketing campaigns and strategies to ensure budgets are spent to maximize ROI, target audiences are reached, and measurable impact on goals is achieved.
- Leverage data to deliver precision marketing to maximize audience engagement.
- Frequently and consistently review in-market campaigns to optimize performance.
Reporting and Analysis
- Demonstrate expertise in data and analytics using tools like Google Data Studio, Google Analytics, and native social media platforms to access, prioritize, analyze, and visualize data for actionable insights.
- Shares findings with multiple stakeholders and uses information in making data-driven recommendations.
- *Skills & Abilities**:
- Demonstrated ability to project manage complex initiatives and maintain strong, positive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and ability to gather information, analyze problems, and advise on potential solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with clients and manage multiple projects end-to-end. Coordinate the formation of cross-functional teams and lead them to complete projects.
- Demonstrated experience setting up paid and automated digital marketing campaigns for prospective student and customer acquisition with a clear understanding of content marketing and inbound marketing.
- Experience using personalization, behavioral data and customer segmentation for marketing strategies.
- Be a fast learner with great verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong foundational understanding of privacy legislation and cybersecurity.
- *Qualifications**:
- Possesses a bachelor’s degree or diploma in business, marketing, communications or a related field. A combination of marketing experience and education will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of marketing and advertising experience, with experience developing and executing strategic marketing plans across a variety of platforms.
