Destination Marketing Manager

About the Role
Explore Cochrane is seeking a driven marketing Intrapreneur to champion our community-driven tourism strategy. You’ll be a storyteller, event promoter, visual designer, and destination explorer. We need a builder who is ready to craft the strategy, determine the metrics of success, and own the execution.
You will join a lean, agile team, working side-by-side with the Executive Director to have a genuine impact on the visitor economy. This is a dynamic blend of leadership and action—you won't just maintain the status quo; you will shape the future of our destination.
This position is currently structured as a one-year contract with a strong possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.
What You’ll Do
Creative & Digital Execution
- Social & Copywriting: Own the storytelling—from writing blogs, newsletters, and press releases to planning, shooting, editing, and posting engaging social content on multiple social platforms.
- Graphic Design & Visual Identity: Maintain the organization's visual identity by executing the majority of graphic design work in-house across digital, social, and print channels.
- Website Stewardship: Manage website content, visuals, and partner listings, while collaborating with our external developer to ensure technical health and optimization.
- Paid Advertising: Set up and optimize paid digital campaigns (Meta and Google Ads) to ensure our message reaches the right audience.
- Partner Marketing Support: Support tourism partners through inclusive marketing initiatives, ensuring local businesses are accurately represented across website listings and campaigns.
Strategy, Reporting & Collaboration
- Strategic Planning: Work with the Executive Director to develop the annual marketing roadmap. You will help turn our high-level goals into a practical content calendar.
- Budget & Optimization: Manage the annual marketing budget and paid ad spend.
- Reporting: Transform raw data into actionable insights. Monitor real-time performance to pivot tactics and produce comprehensive quarterly reports that demonstrate genuine impact.
- Contractor Coordination: Act as the point person for external marketing contractors (e.g., web developers) when technical needs exceed our internal capacity.
- Event Collaboration: Partner with the Event Manager to identify marketing needs and execute promotional strategies for signature community events.
Who You Are
- An Explorer: You are a Cochrane area resident who loves this community. You are eager to leave the desk, experience our tourism products firsthand, and capture the authentic feeling of our destination to share with the world.
- An Intrapreneur: You take ownership of your portfolio. You are proactive about identifying problems and implementing solutions, but you always operate within the strategic guardrails we have established together.
- A Finisher: You find deep satisfaction in a completed checklist. You value systems and workflows that keep the engine running, and you have the discipline to see projects through from the initial spark to the final sign-off.
- Creative & Analytical: You are comfortable toggling between the creative brain (design/writing) and the analytical brain (data/budgeting).
- A Community Builder: You understand the nuances of a community-based organization and are passionate about supporting the local businesses that make up our visitor economy.
Professional Qualifications
- Tourism Industry Experience: Prior experience in tourism, hospitality, or destination management is required. You must understand the visitor economy and how to market experiences.
- Experience: 3-5+ years in digital marketing or communications, with a portfolio demonstrating hands-on content creation and strategy execution.
- Mobility: A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required to explore the region, visit partners, and attend events.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in graphic design tools, social media platforms, and video editing software for social media.
- Digital Fluency: Strong working knowledge of WordPress, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics (GA4), and email marketing platforms.
- Education: Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Tourism, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
Location & Compensation
- Compensation: $60,000 annually.
- Home-Based (Cochrane Required): A fully remote role requiring residence in the Cochrane area to facilitate regular in-person team collaboration and active community engagement.
Why Work With Us?
- Live & Work Local: Ditch the commute to the city. This role is perfect for a local professional who wants to build a career right here in Cochrane.
- True Flexibility: We focus on output, not desk hours. Enjoy a flexible schedule and work options that fit your life.
- Experiential "Field Research": Part of your job is knowing the product. That means getting out of the office to experience local events, try new activities, and visit partner businesses.
- Professional Growth: We invest in your skills with opportunities to attend tourism conferences, workshops, and industry networking events.
To Apply
Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining why you are the right "Intrapreneur" for this role.
Note: As this is a hands-on creative role, candidates selected for an interview will be asked to provide a portfolio demonstrating proficiency in short-form video, graphic design, and professional copywriting.
