Global Supply Management (GSM) is responsible for helping Amex maximize the purchasing power of over $11B of third party spend. We provide strategic consultation for the business and provide end-to-end procurement services. We maximize the purchasing power of the Company to drive the best value from our supplier base which then frees up investment capacity for the Blue Box. GSM together with our business partners manages the supplier strategy for the Company, identifying and on-boarding new suppliers, realizing significant cost saves and revenue generation relating to working with Global Commercial Services and Global Merchant Services to increase billings and merchant coverage and ensuring optimal user experience for Amex employees and suppliers.


The Strategic Category Analyst role will help develop and grow relationships with business partners supporting Marketing & Promotions to understand objectives, key priorities, and opportunities.  Additionally, this colleague will support the development of strategic, forward-thinking plans with multi-year value generating initiatives to enable business success.  This is a global role assisting with all American Express customer segments across multiple categories. This colleague will work with various category and market managers to ensure projects remain on track and are delivered against expectations.


The successful candidate will develop and grow relationships with business partners to understand objectives, key priorities, and opportunities while collaborating with a global team to develop strategic, forward-thinking strategies with multi-year value generating initiatives to enable business success.  



Responsibilities include:

  • Support the category team developing strong relationships with business partners to gain business unit knowledge, understand goals, and help identify issues and potential opportunities (e.g., influence requirements, educate business how to capture the most value from supplier relations); with a customer first mindset
  • Assist in the development of strategic, forward thinking global category plans with multi-year value generating sourcing initiatives to enable the business success
  • Bring external insights, innovative ideas, and an enterprise view on market trends, competitive landscape value generation and strategic sourcing opportunities
  • Create inputs to inform the strategy on best practices around supplier and services based on both internal conditions and plans as well as industry trends.  This includes but is not limited to price, scope, performance, and right sourcing.
  • Help build strong partnerships with select strategic suppliers and manage them effectively
  • Develop a category review cycle to refresh strategy and ensure alignment with business partners on a regular basis
  • Monitor total spend across the business to leverage global spend where applicable
  • Act as a point of contact for select business partners
  • Ability to travel 10%


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, balanced with proven track record of delivering tangible results in global and matrix work environment. 

  • Strong relationship management and communication skills with ability to collaborate across levels with internal and external partners globally. 

  • Proven track record of data analysis to develop insights and recommendations, solve business challenges, improve customer experience and bottom-line results. 

  • Strong leadership skills and commitment to collaborating and partnering with customers, colleagues, and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality output with limited resources. 

  • Positive attitude, ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced, and at times unstructured environment and maintain flexibility to meet the changing needs of the customers, business units and the organization. 

  • Bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in Procurement, Servicing and Operations or related field a plus. 


  • Financial acumen experience with standard accounting treatment.

  • Project management skills: managing and sourcing events, contract renewals, system/ process changes.


Salary Range: $65,500.00 to $102,500.00 annually + bonus + benefits
