Technical Business Developer, ADC Network Development
Amazon Web Services (AWS)Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Technical Business Developer to support and deploy its complex telecommunication networks. The role focuses on planning and executing strategic initiatives to enhance Amazon Dedicated Cloud infrastructure and improve business processes related to hyperscale cloud deployment and vendor management.
Responsibilities
- Provide regular updates to Senior management
- Serve as a key member of the team driving overall Network Infrastructure strategy
- Manage multiple competing cross-functional projects/programs simultaneously, some on a global scale
- Periodical reports on overall network development program status
- Manage vendors to ensure on-time deployment, measure progress, and evaluate performance through quality Key Performance Indicators
- Identify vendors and develop commercial solutions for wavelengths, dark fiber, and other network infrastructure capacity
- Negotiate key vendor contracts from business and technical perspectives in partnership with AWS legal teams
- Own all elements of supplier management including pricing, billing, and service level availability compliance
- Work with suppliers to verify and gain supply in response to forecast demand and network topology plans
- Work closely with service owners and internal customers to understand product roadmaps and devise programs to meet capacity requirements
- Develop strategic backbone and metro supply plans for short, medium, and long-term needs (leased capacity, fiber pairs, new cable builds)
- Collaboratively develop network infrastructure execution plans involving leased wavelengths, dark fiber, and submarine cable capacity/builds
- Participate in strategic network topology planning for global backbone and metro networks
- Work closely with finance partners on budget creation, business case development, deal analysis, and supplier invoicing
- Create and standardize reporting mechanisms and provide regular progress updates
- Track and maintain information on telecom market trends, vendor technologies, coverage, cost, and deal structures
- Work with Amazon Legal and Public Policy teams to ensure compliance with local telecom regulations and identify opportunities to improve operating models
- Manage costs and provide financial updates
- Run meetings, create and maintain timelines, and keep large, diverse groups informed of progress and obstacles
- Anticipate bottlenecks, manage risk and escalations, and balance business needs versus technical constraints
- Interact with engineers, technicians, vendors, and senior management daily
Skills
- Knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies, related to infrastructure (i.e. network, data center, hardware, software)
- 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience
- 5+ years telecommunications industry experience in procurement and negotiations
- Experience with varying scenarios of infrastructure builds
- Experience working in a network planning, network construction/implementation, or commercial implementation role at an ISP, telecoms operator, or Hyperscaler
- Experience in regularly interacting with senior management on matters concerning several areas, divisions, and/or customers
