Job Description

The Communications Specialist supports the strategic communication needs of the Division of Digital Transformation & Technology by developing clear, engaging, and professional content for all audiences. This role is responsible for crafting both persuasive marketing copy (ads, social, email, web) and essential division-wide communications (emails, announcements, presentations, web pages).

The Communications Specialist will collaborate with the Communications Team to produce a variety of content, and must be proficient in working across all content formats to deliver consistent, brand-aligned messages. This position is ideal for a creative professional with a passion for storytelling, whether through exceptional writing or professional visual design.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or a related field of study required. Or a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or other related field of study with related work experience equivalent to a master’s degree in the proceeding fields

  • Considerable experience in marketing copywriting, content creation, digital marketing, or public relations/communications in a professional setting.
  • Exceptional competency in one of two areas: advanced copywriting/editing OR visual design/presentation skills.
  • Writing: Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail; skilled in writing short, persuasive, and effective copy.
  • Visual: Working experience creating professional, visually engaging PowerPoint/slide presentations; Basic design experience in creating professional content within brand guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of branding, messaging, and audience engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to shift priorities quickly and anticipate communication needs in a dynamic setting.
  • Basic knowledge of accessibility standards for digital content and presentations.

Additional Considerations

  • Familiarity with higher education organizational structures, priorities, and communication needs.
