Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager supports the planning, development, and execution of integrated marketing and communications initiatives that advance the mission, visibility, and impact of AFAS. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of Communications & Marketing and works collaboratively across departments to support organizational priorities.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and versatile communicator with strong writing skills, digital marketing experience, and a creative mindset. This individual will help tell the AFAS story to a wide range of audiences, including donors, corporate partners, supporting organizations, and the Airmen, Guardians, and families we serve.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position based in Arlington, Virginia. The role follows a hybrid schedule, with an expected in-office presence three days per week, subject to mission and operational needs.

Anticipated salary range: $70,000–$90,000, commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.

Work Location and Hybrid Schedule

This position is based at Air & Space Forces Aid Society’s headquarters located at 1550 Crystal Drive, Suite 809, Arlington, Virginia 22202. AFAS operates under a hybrid work model designed to support collaboration, effectiveness, and work-life balance.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is expected to work onsite at least three days per week, with remote work available on the remaining days. The in-office and remote work schedule may be adjusted over time based on mission requirements, operational needs, and organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing and Communications

  • Collaborate with internal teams to plan and execute multi-channel B2B and B2C marketing campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, and fundraising support.
  • Write, edit, and proofread content for the AFAS website, newsletters, email campaigns, social media, press releases, and other communications.
  • Manage AFAS social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, engagement, and performance tracking.
  • Support digital advertising and email marketing initiatives, including Google Ads campaigns.
  • Effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools to improve workflow efficiency, content development, and overall productivity.
  • Ensure brand consistency and message alignment across all marketing and communications materials.

Website Management

  • Maintain and update content on the AFAS website, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, accessibility, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to improve user experience and site functionality.
  • Monitor website analytics and prepare reports with recommendations to improve engagement and performance.

Content Development and Storytelling

  • Develop compelling written and visual content that highlights AFAS programs, impact stories, and donor engagement opportunities.
  • Create basic print, digital, and web graphics using tools such as Canva or Adobe InDesign.
  • Support the coordination of photography and video content for events and campaigns.

Customer and Industry Engagement

  • Represent AFAS at select conferences, trade shows, and industry events to strengthen brand awareness and partnerships.
  • Gather and develop stories from recipients of AFAS assistance to demonstrate program impact and mission effectiveness.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Track, analyze, and report on marketing performance metrics, including website traffic, email engagement, social media, and digital campaigns.
  • Identify trends, insights, and opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible marketing and communications experience, ideally within a nonprofit, government, or mission-driven organization.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling capabilities, with the ability to tailor messages effectively for diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office 365 suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Hands-on experience managing and optimizing digital platforms, including WordPress, Google Analytics, and Google Ads.
  • Experience using graphic design tools such as Canva or similar platforms; familiarity with Adobe InDesign is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of social media management platforms such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret performance data to inform marketing decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented approach to work.
  • Authorization to work in the United States required.
