About Us
For nearly 25 years, SBI has created software that powers businesses in the live goods and nursery industry. Founded in 2001, the company partners with many of the largest and most successful nurseries and growers in the United States, Canada, and the UK. SBI offers comprehensive SaaS solutions, including forecasting, production, replenishment, and EDI cloud, tailored to every aspect of a big retail supplier’s operation. With a focus on innovation and customer support, SBI is currently transitioning to an employee ownership model, which includes a generous retirement plan for all full-time employees.
We have a powerful product and happy customers, but until now, our growth has been almost entirely word-of-mouth.
That’s where you come in.
The Opportunity
This is a rare "greenfield" opportunity for an entrepreneurial, hands-on digital marketer. You will not be inheriting a dusty playbook or managing a large team. You will be employee #1 in the marketing department.
Your mission is to build our marketing engine from the ground up. You will define our voice, identify our best channels, execute campaigns, and measure what works. You will report directly to the [CVO/Founder] and have a direct, visible impact on the company's growth trajectory.
Who You Are
You are a "Swiss Army Knife" marketer who loves the challenge of a blank slate. You are strategic, but you don't shy away from execution—you are happy drafting emails, configuring HubSpot, or designing a Canva graphic. You are data-driven, deeply curious about customer psychology, and comfortable prioritizing ruthlessly in an environment where there is always more to do than time to do it.
Key Responsibilities
Because you are a one-person team, prioritization is key. We don't expect you to do all of these things on day one, but over time, you will own these areas and you can lean on our deep experience in the live goods market to get started:
1. Strategy & Foundation (First 90 Days Focus)
- Work with leadership and sales to define our Ideal Customer Profiles (ICPs) and buyer personas.
- Develop clear product positioning and messaging that differentiates us in the market.
- Create a realistic 6–12 month marketing strategy focused on the highest-impact channels for lead generation.
2. Content Marketing & SEO (The Growth Engine)
- Own the content calendar: Ideate, write, and publish high-quality emails, blog posts, case studies, and white papers that speak to customer pain points.
- Manage on-page and technical SEO for our website to improve organic visibility.
- Translate technical product features into compelling business benefits.
3. Demand Generation & Website
- Manage and optimize the company website (likely WordPress?) to turn visitors into leads.
- Build and manage email marketing campaigns (newsletters, product updates, and automated nurture sequences for new leads).
- Experiment with paid acquisition channels (e.g., LinkedIn Ads, Google Ads) if budget and strategy align.
4. Analytics & Operations
- Define key marketing KPIs (e.g., MQLs, website traffic growth, conversion rates).
- Set up and maintain the marketing tech stack (e.g., GA4, CRM, Email automation tools).
- Report monthly on performance, telling us not just what happened, but why it matters and what we should do next.
Qualifications
Must-Haves
- 4–7+ years of experience in B2B digital marketing (ideally in SaaS or technology).
- Proven track record of driving lead generation through organic channels (content and SEO). We want to see examples of content you’ve produced that ranked and converted.
- Strong writing and copywriting skills. You can write clearly without jargon.
- Hands-on experience with standard marketing tools: Google Analytics (GA4), a major CRM (HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.), and email automation platforms.
- A high degree of autonomy and self-motivation.
- Proficient with Constant Contact and Adobe Suite.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience "standing up" a marketing function in a previous startup environment.
- Basic graphic design skills (comfortable in Canva or similar tools).
- Experience with product marketing (launches, sales enablement decks).
