Job Description: The 3D Print Lab Studio Technician will work as part of the Art and Design studio staff to manage the facilities in Arcadia University's Digital Fabrication Lab. This position will help oversee all lab activities within the digital fabrication studio to ensure safe operation of equipment and tools, guiding students in digital fabrication-related skills and techniques.

The studio technician will foster a positive learning environment through patience, excellent communication skills and expertise in making techniques related to digital fabrication.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Duties include, but not limited to

  • Operation of all fabrication equipment, including 3D Printers, Laser cutters, CnC, and all post-processing equipment.
  • Maintenance and repair (in house or though vendor support) all fabrication equipment.
  • Maintain all materials inventory and track studio and student expenses.
  • Work with students and faculty to ensure printability of all files and assist with necessary changes.
  • Create and manage print queue of jobs to be fabricated and materials handling between jobs.
  • Train and supervise student workers.

Marginal Function

  • Assist students/faculty with all aspects of equipment use and answer questions regarding software.
  • Creation of sample work and assisting faculty members in the development of digital models

Qualifications

  • BFA or similar experience working in 3D Digital Fabrication Lab.
  • Working knowledge of all modeling software, including but not limited to:
  • Rhino7
  • ZBrush
  • Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Working knowledge of all fabrication equipment, including:
  • Stereolithography (SLA), Digital Light Processing (DLP), Fused deposition modeling (FDM), polyjet, selective laser sintering (SLS), Powder/binder-based, etc.)
  • Related experience with the repair and maintenance of 3D printers using vendor service:
  • 3D Systems Projet
  • Stratasys Uprint
  • Formlabs: Form3+
  • Epilogue Laser Engraver, Boss Laser
  • CNC Mill
  • Artec Scanner
