Biteback Publishing is Britain’s leading independent publisher of political and current affairs titles, with our wider list including sport, history, social and economic issues and general non-fiction, with authors ranging from prominent politicians, Olympic athletes and KCs to newfound voices with an important story to tell or a timely argument to present. Recent notable books have included Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants ; Sanctioned: The Inside Story of the Sale of Chelsea FC ; Bandit Country: The IRA and South Armagh ; and Sunday Times bestseller Pomp & Circumstance: Why Britain’s Traditions Matter .
We’re looking for an experienced and dynamic Publicity and Marketing Manager to champion our books, from securing compelling media coverage to creating campaigns that resonate with readers across print and digital.
Reporting to the Commercial Director, the position will involve a mixture of publicity and marketing skills, with a particular focus on media relations.
Publicity
- Create compelling, imaginative publicity campaigns for forthcoming titles.
- Pitch and respond to opportunities across print, broadcast and online media.
- Maintain effective links with media and trade partners.
- Write and distribute press releases.
- Organise launch events and liaise with bookshops and festivals.
Marketing
- Plan and implement integrated marketing campaigns for new and backlist titles with tailored messaging.
- Manage social media, newsletters and digital content to drive sales and audience growth.
- Plan content calendars and oversee the online shop and seasonal campaigns.
General
- Work collaboratively to develop and execute the annual publicity and marketing strategy aligned with publishing schedule and business objectives.
- Identify target audiences for each title.
- Work closely with authors, agents and colleagues in editorial and sales to provide responsive, bespoke author care.
- Contribute to the decision-making and pitching process around acquisitions.
- Support awareness of the Biteback brand within the publishing industry.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate
- Strategic planning and implementation experience for non-fiction publicity campaigns.
- An in-depth understanding of the UK media landscape, including print, broadcast, podcast and online.
- Established media contacts in relevant fields.
- Marketing experience across website, socials, email and digital advertising.
- Confidence and experience liaising with authors from debuts to household names.
- Excellent communication skills, with a flair for copywriting.
- Experience in negotiating serialisations will be an advantage.
