ABOUT THE ROLE
The Engineering Team Lead is responsible for building, leading and motivating a high-performing E-commerce software development team whose primary goals are to:
- Ensure timely delivery of road map features, enhancements and bug fixes in line with business goals.
- Provide a robust ongoing maintenance and support service.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Scaling, building, leading and motivating a high-performing, self-directed E-commerce development team focused on shared outcomes and measurable business and engineering results and creating an environment that people want to stay in.
- Building and maintaining a high-trust, accountable engineering team culture where team members feel safe to raise issues, admit mistakes and challenge ideas constructively.
- Conducting regular 1:1s, feedback cycles and performance reviews aligned to individual and team goals. Providing coaching, mentoring and professional development opportunities to develop team members skills over time.
- Acting as an escalation point while empowering the team to resolve most issues independently. Ensuring the team owns quality outcomes collectively, Leading post-incident and post-release reviews focused on learning, improvement, and shared accountability.
- Owning the technical execution of roadmap initiatives and leading the adoption of software engineering best practices and standards.
- Fostering strong collaboration with digital experience and UX teams, business stakeholders, software architects, QA and technical specialists to align technology delivery with business objectives. Ensuring progress, risks, and trade-offs are visible and understood by the team and stakeholders.
- Leading structured planning and execution cycles by working collaboratively to estimate, plan, prioritise and oversee software development. Using retrospectives to continuously improve planning, quality, process execution, collaboration and predictability over time and to evolve development practices as team maturity grows.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable UK regulations such as UK-GDPR, UK Payment Services Regulations and PCI-DSS, Company Policies and FCA Conduct Rules.

ABOUT YOU
- 3+ years’ experience of working as an Engineering team lead.
- Experience of implementing E-commerce systems within a UK online multi-category retail market.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed, timely technical decisions.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines with high levels of accuracy.
- Pragmatic, adaptable and results oriented, demonstrating a business value focus.
- Self-motivated and able to operate with autonomy.
