General Summary of Position

The Vice President of Nursing Practice Transformation plays a critical leadership role alongside the Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer (SVP & CNO) in advancing the MedStar Health nursing professional practice model. This position will be instrumental in supporting entities in their Magnet Recognition and Pathways to Excellence journeys.

The Vice President is responsible for developing and refining clinical practice guidelines with the system Nursing Practice Council. This leader will drive clinical transformation by standardizing evidence-based nursing practices across the care continuum while ensuring oversight of nursing-sensitive outcome measures and pivotal programs such as NDNQI and NICHE.

In collaboration with the SVP/CNO, the VP will spearhead nursing practice innovation and ensure that MedStar's clinical practice guidelines align with optimal performance in patient experience and value-based care outcomes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the achievement of MedStar Health and corporate nursing goals, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Provide system-level direction for NDNQI and NICHE programs, overseeing nursing-sensitive outcome reporting.
  • Collaborate with the SVP & CNO to set specific objectives, metrics, and expected outcomes for practice innovation each year.
  • Identify patient care delivery improvement opportunities by working closely with nursing and clinical leaders.
  • Evaluate and implement innovative patient care delivery models that enhance care quality within budget constraints.
  • Develop seamless care models collaboratively with nursing and medical leadership across the healthcare continuum.
  • Utilize existing and emerging evidence to inform new approaches to patient care.
  • Leverage technology to conceptualize and implement new care models.
  • Stay informed about innovative patient care delivery programs and their applications nationwide.
  • Prepare grant proposals to secure funding for the design and evaluation of new care models.
  • Oversee strategic initiatives within corporate nursing and across MedStar Health.
  • Serve as a mentor to clinical and nursing administration colleagues, providing expert consultations on nursing practice.
  • Engage in community outreach efforts, representing the department and business unit.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary quality improvement teams and maintain effective relationships with other departments.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in Nursing required
  • Doctoral degree preferred

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in academic medical centers and/or complex health systems required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure; RN licensure in Maryland and the District of Columbia required upon hire
  • Professional certification preferred
  • CPR certification (includes BLS and NRP) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within 90 days of hire
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Requires broad expertise in professional practice models and concepts.
  • Possess expert collaborative, quantitative, and qualitative analytic skills with a passion for executing complex transformation projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

This position has a hiring range of: USD $294,000.00 - USD $397,800.00 /Yr.
