Location: Bay Area, CA or Tucson, AZ (On-site). This role will require traveling to the Pleasanton and/or Tucson offices.

Employment Type: Contract (W-2 Hourly or C2C).

Duration: 12 months. Possibility of renewal depending on personal performance and business needs.

Rate: $60 - $75/hr W-2 Hourly.

About the Role

We are excited to invite an experienced Business Analyst / Consultant to join our digital transformation initiatives within Research & Development (R&D). In this role, you will focus on laboratory systems and process optimization, supporting the implementation of a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and driving operational excellence, data governance, and regulatory compliance across global R&D operations.

As a key consultant, you will engage closely with scientific, technical, and business stakeholders to evaluate current processes, pinpoint gaps, and define clear functional and technical requirements for successful system implementation and adoption. This strategic digital transformation program is designed to phase out legacy laboratory tools and implement a modern, scalable LIMS for managing biospecimen and laboratory data, with a focus on enhancing process efficiency, data integrity, compliance, and integration across digital lab technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Tool Consulting & Integration

  • Assist in the migration from legacy laboratory systems to a unified LIMS platform, ensuring a seamless transition and complete divestment of legacy tools by target timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration with existing digital lab technologies and enterprise systems.
  • Provide best practices advice for system configuration, data migration, archival, training, and validation.

Process Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Lead initiatives for process improvement using Lean / Lean Six Sigma methodologies to enhance laboratory operations.
  • Facilitate process-mapping workshops across multiple functions to foster operational excellence.
  • Conduct assessments to identify current and future-state functionality gaps and scalable solutions that align with R&D objectives.

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage R&D scientists, engineers, and technical teams to gather, document, and validate business and system requirements.
  • Translate scientific and operational needs into unambiguous functional and technical requirements for vendors.
  • Evaluate implemented solutions for value realization and recommend continuous improvements.

Data Governance, Quality & Compliance

  • Advise on adherence to FAIR data principles, GDPR, and global data privacy and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure systems support audit-ready documentation, traceability, and secure management of biospecimens and experimental data.
  • Collaborate with IT and digital teams to establish a robust data backbone that supports automation, connectivity, and emerging technologies (e.g., sensors, IoT).

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in business analysis, consulting, or process improvement roles within the biopharmaceutical and diagnostics industry.
  • Proven experience applying Lean, Lean Six Sigma, or similar methodologies; relevant certification is mandatory.
  • Hands-on experience with modern LIMS and biorepository platforms, as well as familiarity with system integrations and digital ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of biospecimen lifecycles, laboratory workflows, ethics, and data privacy considerations; a scientific background is a plus.
  • Ability to use connected data to generate insights and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience with change management and driving digital tool adoption, fostering a shift towards standardized, data-driven processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with a commitment to maintaining quality, accuracy, and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships inside and outside their functional area.
  • Proficient in working within fast-paced and dynamic environments while managing multiple projects effectively.
