The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) is the national voice for women’s health in Canada with a mission to lead the advancement of women’s health through excellence and collaborative professional practice.
The SOGC has over 4,000 members, comprised of: obstetricians; gynaecologists; family physicians; nurses; midwives and allied health professionals working in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
Since 1944, the SOGC continues to be a leading national and international authority on sexual and reproductive health and on evidence-based training and education. The SOGC leads the development of 12–17 clinical practice guidelines per year and hosts three regional continuing medical education meetings, and an Annual Clinical and Scientific Conference. The SOGC also coordinates and hosts in-person and virtual academic programs for participants at all stages of their career: medical students, residents and practicing health professionals.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Director, Business Development, the Health Promotions and Marketing Specialist is responsible for designing and executing innovative, data-driven marketing strategies to expand SOGC’s reach related to its public health project activities with health care providers, members, partners, the public and patients. This role develops integrated promotions across digital and traditional channels, maximizes visibility of SOGC public-health and project-related programs and events and ensures consistent, effective communication to all key audiences.
The successful candidate brings strong knowledge of healthcare audiences, creativity in leveraging emerging platforms and expertise in bundling and repurposing existing SOGC content for optimal engagement and impact.
This is a hybrid role based out of the SOGC’s office in Ottawa, Ontario.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Audience Engagement
Reaching Health-Care Providers
- Develop targeted outreach strategies to increase uptake of public health and project-related content, including education activities, clinical guidance and information and resources for patients and the public.
- Collaborates to craft messaging tailored to different audience segments including specialists, generalists, residents, interprofessional teams, patients and the public.
- Build promotional pathways using email segmentation, partner associations, social media campaigns and partnerships with academic institutions and hospitals.
Reaching Patients and the Public
- Identify and amplify content relevant to sexual and reproductive health, maternal care and public-facing campaigns.
- Work with subject-matter experts to translate clinical guidance into consumer-friendly material.
- Recommend outreach avenues through public health partners, patient advocacy groups and community organizations.
Member and Partner Communications
- Collaborates on the development of consistent, value-focused communications that reinforce SOGC membership benefits and partner engagement.
- Create member, partner toolkits and co-branded promotional materials for shared initiatives.
Content Strategy, Bundling and Optimization
- Audit existing SOGC content (webinars, clinical guidelines, statements, infographics, course modules) and develop bundled promotional packages for targeted audiences.
- Repurpose assets into bite-sized formats (short videos, carousels, expert quotes, reels, email spotlights).
- Build content arcs that link educational events, guidelines and public awareness campaigns into cohesive thematic series.
- Ensure all content reflects SOGC brand, tone, accuracy and accessibility standards.
Market Research, Analytics and Competitive Insights
- Conduct ongoing market analysis to understand audience needs, emerging trends and gaps across the reproductive and women’s healthcare landscape.
- Monitor competitor and partner activities to identify promotional opportunities and areas for differentiation and synergy.
- Track campaign performance using analytics tools and provide regular reports with insights and recommendations.
- Test new approaches (A/B testing, audience segmentation, messaging variations) to optimize reach and conversions.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work cross-functionally with other SOGC teams to ensure alignment of messaging and timelines.
- Provide strategic input to organizational planning related to communications, membership retention and public engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and KEY SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, digital media, business administration or a related field.
- 5 - 10 years of experience in marketing or promotions, preferably in a health care, research or non-profit context.
- Experience building campaigns for professional audiences and/or public health initiatives.
- Strong understanding of medical and public health audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to create strategic, data-driven marketing plans.
- Expertise in social media management, email automation and digital advertising.
- Ability to synthesize complex information into compelling, accurate messaging.
- Strong writing, editing, content creation and basic design skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is mandatory.
Anticipated annual salary: $70,000 – $80,000
