A rapidly growing, innovative e-commerce enterprise is seeking a highly skilled Senior E-commerce Platform Architect to design, develop, and maintain its robust online retail infrastructure in Des Moines, Iowa . This critical role will be responsible for the overall technical vision and strategy of the e-commerce platform, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and seamless integration with various third-party systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with modern e-commerce architectures, microservices, cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), and best practices in software development. You will lead a team of talented engineers, driving technical excellence and ensuring the platform meets the evolving needs of the business and its customers. A deep understanding of user experience, data management, and performance optimization within a high-traffic online environment is paramount.

Responsibilities

Architect and design scalable, reliable, and secure e-commerce solutions using microservices and cloud-native technologies. Lead the technical design and implementation of new e-commerce features, functionalities, and integrations. Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, and engineering teams to define technical requirements and roadmaps. Oversee the integration of third-party services, such as payment gateways, shipping providers, and marketing automation tools. Ensure the performance, scalability, and security of the e-commerce platform through best practices in coding, testing, and deployment. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and frameworks to enhance the platform's capabilities. Mentor and guide junior software engineers and provide technical leadership to the development team. Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and style guides. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the e-commerce stack. Drive continuous improvement in development processes, deployment strategies, and system monitoring. Ensure adherence to coding standards, security protocols, and performance benchmarks. Champion a data-driven approach to platform development and optimization.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software development, with at least 4 years in e-commerce platform architecture. Proven expertise in designing and implementing scalable microservices architectures. Extensive experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. Strong proficiency in backend development languages (e.g., Java, Python, Node.js) and frontend technologies (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js). Deep understanding of e-commerce platforms (e.g., Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify Plus, Magento) and their customization. Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching mechanisms, and message queues. Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevOps practices. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and architectural design skills. Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities. Experience with API design and management.
