This position requires full in-person collaboration throughout the year, although many roles at Coinbase offer remote flexibility. We hold various team and company-wide offsite events annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment, and your participation is both expected and supported.

The Marketing Legal team serves as the primary legal advisor for our global marketing and growth teams. We guide a variety of matters, including the review of creative assets, negotiation of marketing-related contracts, and the design of sweepstakes and promotions. Our team also assists product teams in communicating effectively with new and prospective Coinbase customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted legal advisor to the Marketing and Growth teams, focusing on executing brand campaigns, managing sponsorship agreements, and advising on advertising claims and promotions.
• Stay informed about the evolving global regulatory landscape and distill complex international laws into practical, actionable advice that empowers our Marketing team to confidently launch cross-border campaigns.
• Streamline your legal advice to scale with business growth and enhance efficiency.
• Adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment, responding effectively to leadership’s dynamic needs.
• Collaborate with other Legal team members to address broader issues affecting Marketing and Growth beyond your immediate focus.
• Manage outside counsel for specific projects effectively while building your own expertise.

Qualifications

• Proven experience supporting global marketing teams, including the review of advertising and promotional materials and advising on claim substantiation.
• Experience managing the lifecycle of branding campaigns encompassing business affairs.
• Ability to evaluate risks and provide strategic legal solutions regarding intellectual property rights, including music, talent, film, trademarks, copyrights, and user-generated content.
• Knowledge in advising on domestic and international sweepstakes, contests, and promotional events.
• Extensive experience independently structuring and negotiating complex marketing agreements.
• Strong project management skills to coordinate across time zones and meet tight deadlines.
• Adept at building trusted relationships with Marketing and Growth teams to provide aligned legal guidance.
• Exceptional ability to provide concise and practical legal advice on various matters with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable working independently in a growth-oriented, fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards and regulatory compliance.
• An eagerness to take on tasks of all sizes, demonstrating a proactive approach.

Preferred Qualifications

• Genuine enthusiasm and foundational understanding of cryptocurrency.
• Experience in a business affairs role.
• Familiarity with privacy, intellectual property, and financial services laws that affect marketing and/or cryptocurrency.
• Direct experience supporting policy-related advocacy campaigns.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your location, the target annual *base *salary for this position ranges from $183,855 to $216,300 USD. Coinbase provides a comprehensive compensation package that includes bonus eligibility, equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
