We are seeking a talented, driven Category Merchant / Merchandising Manager-level person who strives for excellence and has a history of success. The role will support strategic direction and product associated with our licensed design collections. The qualified individual will have a passion for design and has assortment planning and strong analytical skills. Candidates with experience in merchandising/category management at a consumer company with a licensed design background are preferred.
This Merchant is responsible for creating the merchandising assortment strategy as it relates to licensing partnerships, execute the product launch roadmap, act as key contributor in developing merchandising strategies and product assortments, and drive the day-to-day execution of all merchandising projects related to licensing. The Merchant will provide cross-functional department leadership and partner effectively with the Partnerships Team as well as Design, Catalog Operations, Merchandise and Demand Planning, Operations, Marketing, Product, Engineering, & UX. Also acts as a key liaison between Shutterfly and its licensing partners, providing best-in-class brand representation while building meaningful relationships that drive company initiatives. The position reports directly to Director of Category.

The compensation package for this role is based on multiple factors, such as job level, responsibilities, location, and candidate experience. The base pay ranges included below are specific to the locations listed, and may not be applicable to other locations.
Within the range listed below, the target starting rate for this role is up to $120,000 per year.
California : [$108,500 - $154,000]
Connecticut and New York: [$108,500 - $141,000]
Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota and Washington: [$108,500 - $130,500]
Nevada: [$102,000 - $141,000]
Maryland and New Jersey: [$117,250 - $141,000]
Hawaii : [$102,000 – $122,750]

Responsibilities
Development of Assortment
- Develop and execute assortment strategies that support the overall licensing targets
- Understand the Shutterfly customer motivations. Proactively identify opportunities in the assortment for growth /decline by category based on market trends, the competitive landscape, and historical performance
- Leverage analytics to define the design strategy and assortment, incorporating insights regarding category page performance and opportunities to drive conversion, feature uptake, and average order value
- Drives the assortment process from design to launch
- Partner with Internal [and External Designers] to develop designs & collections that are on-brand and support the revenue targets
- Present results and socialize learnings across all meetings
- Own the production launch calendar and all roadmap projects for licensing
- Collaborate with merchandise, demand planning, and finance teams to build financial assortment plans
- Responsible for overall revenue, margin and productivity of the assortment
- Write briefs to request assets/copy from Creative Marketing
- Coordinate with Creative Marketing team and other stakeholders for feedback and approvals
- Implement assets for seasonal changes, occasion changes, and pricing/promotion changes (for home page, category pages, and other relevant pages)
- Collaborate with Ecom / Site Merchandising to develop online visual merchandising strategy including filters, SKU organization and ranking, and optimizing the overall “shopability” of licensed collection on site
- Partner with P&P and finance on pricing that supports margin targets
- Create and execute consumer facing promotional strategy
- Manage day-to-day relationship with licensing representative(s)
- Complete and submit quarterly royalty forecasts, actively track and monitor Shutterfly’s compliance with our contractual obligations, and support regular audit cycles in partnership with Legal and other cross-functional teams
- Minimum of 6 / 8 years of experience with at least 3 years of experience as a Merchandising Manager (ecommerce/retail strongly preferred)
- Experience working with Disney or other brands in a licensing capacity preferred
- Strong creative and design POV and ability to translate trends into revenue-driving assortments.
- Quantitative skills balanced with qualitative is essential.
- Possess a working knowledge of financial measurements and how to impact them.
- Effective communication, presentation and people skills; collaborative
- Initiative-taker and capable of balancing multiple priorities
- Experience of working with design teams strongly preferred.
- Broad-based business acumen with the ability to partner, collaborate and negotiate with senior-level business partners.
- Highly developed PC/MAC skills; advanced proficiency with Excel, Adobe Creative Suite.
- BA/BS degree in merchandising, graphic design, fashion design, or related fields
