Operating at the senior leadership level, you'll influence enterprise strategy, navigate a complex regulatory environment, and represent the organization externally. You will recommend retail commodity pricing options and regulated distribution rates to City Council. You'll also drive energy-based business development solutions and value-add commercial arrangements that grow the City's energy customer base and add economic value to the community.

  • Set and execute the commercial strategy and market exposure for a municipally owned energy portfolio, balancing profitability, sustainability, and public interest.
  • Drive asset optimization to maximize economic performance across multiple profit centres.
  • Recommend energy-based retail rates (regulated and deregulated) to City Council that provides fair return for the sustainability of the profit centre without unduly adding cost to utility customers.
  • Act as a trusted commercial advisor to Executive Leadership and City Council on market conditions, risk exposure, and long‑term asset value including delivery of credible business cases that support investment decisions and customer growth strategies.
  • Provide clear leadership and accountability for market decisions that materially impact earnings, product competitiveness, and risk.

What You Bring

  • Strong understanding of wholesale and retail energy markets, delivery frameworks, and industry trends.
  • Proven strategic and agile leadership, with the ability to assess risk, identify opportunities, and influence decisions.
  • Experience in energy trading or commercial energy markets, including hedging strategies and market execution.
  • CFA designation strongly preferred, with deep expertise in financial modeling, forward‑looking market analysis, and risk management.
  • Solid experience in commercial contract negotiation and administration, including complex, relationship‑driven agreements.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta's energy market structure and evolving legislative and regulatory environment.
  • Clear, confident communicator with experience advising executives and building trust‑based stakeholder relationships.
  • Demonstrated success leading high‑performing, collaborative teams with accountability for results and sound judgment.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a degree in business, administration, economics, or commerce from a recognized post-secondary institution.
