Position Description:

The Marketing and Communications Department at Surrey Place is seeking a Director, Marketing and Communications. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for the organization’s marketing and communications portfolios.

The role has five focus areas: brand and integrated marketing, digital strategy; B2C and B2B services; fundraising and philanthropic communications; and corporate and internal communications.

The Director will ensure all marketing and communications efforts align with the Strategic Plan, support the annual Operational Plan, and reflect the organization’s commitment to equity, accessibility and impact.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies to advance Surrey Place’s visibility, engagement, and growth across core service areas.
  • Champion data-driven decision-making by establishing key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring performance, and reporting ROI across campaigns.
  • Identify and respond to emerging organizational issues, with clear, aligned, communication strategies.
  • Represent the marketing and communications team at the senior leadership table, supporting cross-functional alignment and proactive planning.
  • Oversee departmental planning, budgeting, procurement, and vendor relationships to support operations.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that embraces innovation, and shared accountability.
  • Provide direct supervision to the Manager, Communications and the Manager, Marketing.

Marketing portfolio:

  • Brand stewardship: Oversee brand identity (toolkits, templates, logos, guidelines), ensuring visual and narrative alignment across all touchpoints.
  • Digital strategy: Lead Surrey Place’s web presence, including SEO and content marketing.
  • Content marketing: Guide development of informative, compelling content that supports awareness, thought leadership and engagement.
  • Campaigns: Drive digital and traditional marketing campaigns (paid social, SEM, email marketing, print).
  • Fundraising marketing: Support the Foundation’s annual giving campaigns and donor acquisitions strategies, aligning storytelling and impact measurement.
  • B2B Marketing: Lead the go-to-market strategy, working closely with business development and clinical service teams.

Communications portfolio:

  • Corporate Communications: Lead external communications, media relations, government relations and executive thought leadership opportunities.
  • Social Media: Supervise content planning across platforms to ensure alignment with voice, brand and priorities.
  • Internal Communications: Oversee internal channels (newsletters, staff briefings, email) to ensure timely and transparent organizational updates).
  • Issues Management: Collaborate with senior leaders to develop key messaging during sensitive situations.
  • Other duties to ensure the overall health and success of the portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • University or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Five years or more of progressive management experience in Marketing or Communications role.
  • Demonstrated leadership of integrated marketing and communications teams across digital, brand content, fundraising, and corporate communications.
  • Strong understanding of Fundraising and B2B marketing, especially in health, education or not-for-profit settings is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based developmental and health services and care.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and planning skills.
  • A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), social media expertise on various platforms.
