Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Expert for Custom HTML Site & A/B Testing
Upwork
We’re a high-traffic online business in the youth sports and education space. Our custom-coded HTML site (no CMS) supports a range of offerings, including event registrations, paid digital downloads, and lead generation through newsletter sign-ups and gated resources.
We’ve run a couple of A/B tests on a few pages, but need an experienced Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) expert to take ownership of strategy, testing, and performance analysis. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who can move quickly, think strategically, and back their decisions with data.
✅ Scope of Work
Set up and manage A/B and multivariate tests on a custom HTML site
Optimize funnels for
- Camp/event registrations
- Lead generation (newsletter, downloads)
- Digital Downloads/Information Products conversions (digital guides, courses)
- Collaborate with our dev team to implement and QA test variants
- Help select or configure A/B testing tools (Convert, Optimizely, VWO, etc.)
- Analyze test performance using statistically valid methods
- Propose data-backed UX/UI improvements based on user behavior and outcomes
📊 What You'll Work With
- Custom HTML site (not built on Shopify, WordPress, or any CMS)
- Two-step funnel on the camp registrations: registration → pay-ment
- Multiple touchpoints: newsletter signups, paid digital downloads, camp registrations, email nurture flows
- 200K+ sessions/month (distributed across multiple pages and products)
🧠 Ideal Experience
- Proven success optimizing custom or static websites (not reliant on platforms)
- Strong grasp of CRO best practices for both ecomm and lead gen
- Skilled with experimentation tools: Convert, Optimizely, VWO, etc.
- Ability to define success metrics, run significance tests, and present clear insights
💡 How to Stand Out (Required to Apply)
To help us filter for quality, please follow these three steps in your proposal:
1) Start your response with the phrase: “Data beats opinion.”
2)Attach or link to a 1–2 minute video (Loom, YouTube, etc.) answering:
- What's your process for identifying high-impact A/B test opportunities?
- Share an example of a successful test you've run on a custom site.
- What do many companies get wrong about CRO?
- List your favorite A/B testing tool and why you like it.
Applicants who skip these steps will not be considered.
