Active for Life is a Canadian not-for-profit initiative dedicated to helping families and educators give children the right start in life through the development of physical literacy. Our mission is to provide tailored resources, expert guidance, and inspiration to empower adults in supporting children’s movement skills, confidence, and enjoyment of physical activity—so they grow up “active for life”.

We also operate Learn Through Active Play, which focuses on supporting early childhood educators in incorporating physical literacy into childcare settings.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced SEO Content Editor to support the ongoing growth and optimization of Active for Life’s website content. This role blends expert-level SEO knowledge with strong content editing and web writing skills to ensure our articles, landing pages, and resources are discoverable, engaging, and aligned with our mission. The ideal candidate has a strong editorial eye, a deep understanding of search intent and SEO best practices, and the ability to transform content into clear, compelling web experiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SEO Strategy & Implementation

  • Conduct keyword research to inform content planning, topic selection, and article optimization.
  • Optimize existing and new articles for search engines using tools like SEMrush, Clearscope, and Google Search Console.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure content aligns with current SEO strategy and evolving search trends.
  • Monitor and improve site-wide SEO health, including technical SEO in collaboration with web developers.

Content Editing & Repurposing

  • Edit long- and short-form articles for clarity, structure, tone, and SEO, ensuring all content reflects Active for Life’s brand and voice.
  • Repurpose articles and resources into new formats (e.g., listicles, landing pages, guides) to extend their value and reach.
  • Ensure consistency in language, formatting, and messaging across the site.

Web Copywriting

  • Write and optimize persuasive and clear landing page copy aligned with user intent.
  • Refresh older pages to align with updated messaging and SEO standards.
  • Collaborate with program leads to write compelling web copy for new initiatives, campaigns, and resources.

Content Strategy & Collaboration

  • Working with the Marketing Manager to suggest and provide timely articles to align with the content calendar.
  • Support the editorial calendar by suggesting high-opportunity SEO topics and content updates.
  • Collaborate with writers, the marketing manager, the social media manager, content manager and production team to ensure alignment across channels.
  • Identify internal linking opportunities to improve content flow and search visibility.
  • Utilize ChatGPT and other AI software to help with efficiencies in the tasks.

Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Track keyword rankings, organic traffic, and content performance using SEMrush (or equivalent), Google Tag Manager, and Google Search Console.
  • Provide regular reports and actionable insights to guide future content strategy.
  • Conduct on-page A/B testing when applicable to improve content engagement and rankings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in SEO-focused content editing, writing, or strategy
  • Deep understanding of on-page and technical SEO principles
  • Strong editorial and writing skills, especially for digital audiences
  • Experience with SEO and content tools such as SEMrush, Clearscope, Accuranker, SEOQuake, or similar
  • Comfortable working in WordPress or similar CMS environments
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with experience in Monday
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively within a distributed (remote) team
  • Passion for promoting active, healthy lifestyles for children and families

BONUS EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in nonprofit, health promotion, or education sectorsUnderstanding of accessibility standards for web content
  • Bilingual (French is an asset but not required)
