Senior Reliability Engineer
IlluminaThe Senior Reliability Engineer within the Strategic Operations team ensures that consumables manufacturing systems in San Diego, CA, are optimally operated and maintained throughout their lifecycle. They support equipment engineer teams through the provision of reliability expertise and services in a fast pace regulated environment. They will work in a dynamic team-oriented environment that supports multiple operations and technologies helping Illumina deliver its highly complex product pipeline.
Responsibilities
Work closely with NPI and Equipment Engineering teams to assess and prepare equipment transfer from development to sustaining.
Lead and execute the provision of maintenance dossiers for new equipment containing: Criticality Studies, Turnover Packages, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) studies, Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, Maintainability Reviews, CMMS Data Packages, Spares Lists, Special Tools Lists, Measuring Points.
Support hands-on troubleshooting of chronic equipment failures, organize and lead Root Cause Analysis work sessions.
Be available and willing to spend time on the manufacturing floor during maintenance and troubleshooting activities
Enable data driven decision making through the collection, cleansing and statistical analysis of failure data.
Integrate equipment into the Data Historian (E3) and build alarm and triggers for early detection of failure modes.
Generate or sustain work instructions linked to equipment maintenance (PM procedures, Task Lists, Asset Lifecycle Processes, Spare Parts Processes, Planning and Scheduling Processes, Maintenance Strategies…)
Sustain the Equipment Spares Program, support materials onboarding activities, set up parts for refurbishment, process Re-order point (ROP) /Max Stock-Level (MSL) update requests.
Monitor maintenance and spare parts related metrics (Uptime, PM Compliance/Performance, Spares Release TAT, Indirect/Direct procurement)
Engage with vendors and sourcing partners to establish service contracts, define scope of support and negotiate technical and commercial terms.
Lead or participate in lean initiatives to eliminate waste in engineering processes, lead internalization of maintenance activities where appropriate.
Participate in projects initiations, provide inputs to problem statement, scope, benefits, timeline, resource allocation and risks.
Act as Reliability SME or project lead, monitor project progress to plan and report-out.
Spearhead improvements to engineering processes. Identify and develop new processes, as needed.
Maintain strong positive working relationships with stakeholders, cross-functional team members, and internal customers.
Be a role model in a team environment; continuously push for improved equipment reliability and uptime. Coach and mentor other engineers and technicians, as appropriate.
Requirements:
Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) required
SMRP Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) is nice to have
Six Sigma Belt certification strongly preferred.
CRL certification is nice to have
Familiarity in the operation and maintenance of one or multiple of the following equipment: Fill-Finish, Semi-Conductor, Analytical, alternatively, demonstrable experience with optical, mechanical, electrical, automation, and or fluidics systems
Ability to learn and understand component level failures for unconventional or unique manufacturing systems
Working knowledge and understanding of statistics and DOE methodology using a reputable software such as JMP or Minitab.
Knowledge of engineering analysis methodologies including Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Fault-Tree Analysis.
Experienced in Process mapping using Business Process flow modelling (BPMN)
Experience setting up performance driven maintenance service contracts
Advanced ability to read and understand engineering documentation (Wiring Diagrams, General Arrangements, SLDs, P&IDs…)
Advanced Excel, Microsoft Office, Windows abilities
Document Control and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems experience
Experience with CMS/MMS, preferably with SAP PM/MM
Demonstrated ability to work in a matrixed environment and to influence process change via interpersonal skills
Self-motivated and proactive
Travel up to 10%
While performing the duties of this job, is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, crouch, or wear safety gear. Must regularly lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Experience/Education:
Bachelors’ degree, 3+ years of experience
Experience in a clinically regulated environment is highly desirable
Work experience in Life Sciences / Pharmaceutical / Medical Devices industries would be an advantage
Six Sigma Green Belt and Controls experience (Beckhoff Twincat, Siemens S7) is a plus
Project Management Experience, certification (PMP, Prince2) is a plus
SQL or Python experience is a plus
