About the Internship

The Aviation Department is seeking a Technology & Digital Services Intern to support the Aviation Data & Tech Solutions Unit, which leads digital modernization across the Port Authority’s five-airport system—one of the busiest and most complex in the nation. Within the Data & Tech Solutions, the Aviation Technology & Digital Team enables airport operations through the development, integration, and governance of critical aviation systems. This includes airport management platforms, security and credentialing systems, operational data pipelines, emerging technology pilots, and digital services that improve efficiency, resilience, and the passenger experience.

As an intern, you will report to the Manager of Aviation Technology & Digital Services and support efforts to manage the lifecycle of Aviation’s technology portfolio, advance digital modernization initiatives, and strengthen the cybersecurity and resiliency posture of airport systems. You will gain hands-on experience with real-world aviation technology challenges and contribute to innovation efforts that shape the future of airport operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of a cybersecurity and systems assurance program for mission-critical Aviation applications, including documentation of security controls and dependencies.
  • Conduct system assessments and map technical integrations, producing updated architecture diagrams that reflect data flows, APIs, and cross-system touchpoints across the OSI model.
  • Collect technical and operational information required for onboarding Aviation systems to enterprise cybersecurity, observability, and system monitoring tools.
  • Assist in updating disaster recovery and business continuity playbooks, ensuring essential systems meet resiliency and recovery standards.
  • Analyze existing Aviation technologies to identify opportunities for modernization, efficiency improvements, automation, and enhanced user experience.
  • Collaborate with the Aviation Innovation team on digital-first initiatives, including emerging technology evaluations (e.g., computer vision, AI-enabled analytics, IoT, and operational automation).
  • Update and maintain system documentation such as architecture diagrams, integration inventories, system lifecycles, and business function mappings.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting tools (Power BI or similar) to support project tracking, system health monitoring, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Participate in project meetings with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to alignment on system requirements, dependencies, and implementation plans.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Science, or a related technical/analytical field.
  • Foundational understanding of system architecture, cybersecurity concepts, cloud or on-prem IT systems, and/or digital technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).

Desired Qualifications

  • Interest in public service, aviation, and digital transformation.
  • Experience with Power BI, Power Apps, or other data visualization or low-code platforms.
  • Understanding of the OSI model, system design concepts, and API or integration basics.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Interest in cybersecurity, resiliency planning, digital innovation, and modernizing legacy systems.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
