Overview
The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and a champion of the Incompass mission—empowering individuals in need of human services to lead full, meaningful lives in their communities. A hands-on, visionary leader, the CMO will define, elevate, and steward the Incompass brand while driving integrated marketing and fundraising strategies that advance organizational sustainability, visibility, and impact. This role shapes the narrative of who we are and what we stand for: a diverse, adaptive, open-hearted community of Care Champions dedicated to purposeful innovation and service excellence.
Position Summary
The CMO leads all branding, marketing, communications, and fundraising-aligned initiatives, ensuring cohesive strategic direction and measurable outcomes. Responsible for building brand equity, increasing fundraising revenue, and strengthening stakeholder engagement, the CMO develops a culture of creativity, accountability, and results. This leader will inspire both internal teams and external vendors to share the Incompass story with clarity, conviction, and authenticity. Through data-driven strategy, thoughtful storytelling, and collaborative leadership, the CMO advances the reputation, reach, and long-term resilience of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and execute an integrated, ROI-driven marketing and communications strategy that establishes brand positioning, visual identity, and messaging aligned to mission and strategic priorities.
  • Increase brand awareness, visibility of programs, and understanding of organizational impact through multi-channel marketing, compelling narratives, and strong media presence.
  • Build and lead a high-performing marketing team, including recruitment, supervision, and vendor management.
  • Partner with the CEO, Executive Team, and Board to grow and strengthen donor and influencer networks; ensure marketing and fundraising goals are aligned and measurable.
  • Serve as primary media spokesperson; develop and manage relationships with journalists to secure strategic earned media coverage.
  • Oversee digital presence, including web, social media, SEO, and content strategy, to maximize engagement, donor conversion, and reputation.
  • Lead market research, competitive analysis, and data-driven decision-making to refine strategies and optimize ROI.
  • Provide strategic counsel on branding, communications, public relations, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support internal communications efforts across the organization to enhance culture, transparency, and alignment.
  • Collaborate on the development of the marketing and fundraising technology ecosystem (CRM, CMS, BIS, ESP).
  • Ensure strong representation and promotion of programmatic and advocacy initiatives at fundraising events.
  • Manage marketing budgets aligned to organizational priorities.
  • Represent Incompass at community, donor, and public events across northeastern Massachusetts.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful CMO is an inspiring storyteller, strategic thinker, and collaborative leader with strong business intellect, creative insight, and financial acumen. They bring a results-driven mindset, deep commitment to mission, and passion for inclusive, innovative, person-centered human services. A bachelor's degree is required and advanced degree (Masters, Ph.D.) in business, marketing, communications or related field is strongly desired. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role either in-house or with an agency is also required. Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing an integrated marketing/strategic communications role, including but not limited to, paid, earned and owned initiatives, to advance an organization's mission and goals, as well as individual initiatives to drive awareness, partnership and donations are key components to being successful from the outset in this role.
