Description
Application deadline: Feb 23, 2026
Are you ready to shape the future of grocery shopping? Join our fast-growing business with a vision to revolutionize how customers experience grocery through new automation technologies. As Senior Manager, Operations Engineering for the Worldwide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST) Automation team, you'll lead the charge in automating a major portion of grocery operations, delivering step-change improvements in both operating costs and delivery speeds.
This is a rare multi-functional leadership opportunity where you'll independently lead an organization spanning the full spectrum of automation—from hardware engineering and system engineering to operations engineers and support engineers. You'll own the automation lifecycle across our worldwide grocery network.
What makes this role exceptional is the breadth of impact and leadership scope. You'll define long-term technical strategy, evaluate innovative hardware automation solutions, build launch roadmaps, deploy innovative technology across our sites, and drive continuous improvement to maximize performance. Leading a diverse team of technical and operational experts, you'll think big while executing with excellence, partnering with software teams, business leaders, operations teams, and third-party providers to transform grocery operations at scale.
If you're energized by the opportunity to lead multifunctional teams, drive innovation in automation technology, and create lasting impact on how millions of customers shop for groceries, this role offers the perfect combination of strategic leadership and hands-on execution in one of the most exciting growth areas at Amazon.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a multifunctional team to think big while executing with excellence across the full automation lifecycle.
- Create buy-in for technical strategy and execution plans across technical, operational, and third-party organizations, building alignment on vision and approach for automating grocery operations at scale.
- Establish metrics and key performance indicators to measure success across automation deployment, operational performance, and maintenance effectiveness, driving data-informed decision making.
- Shape technical strategies and designs for hardware automation solutions that will transform operations across fulfillment centers, physical stores, distribution centers, and food manufacturing facilities.
- Lead the development of launch plans and deployment roadmaps, ensuring successful rollout of automation technologies across our worldwide grocery businesses.
- Partner closely with software engineering teams, business and operational stakeholders, and third-party automation providers to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of automation solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the performance and maintenance of deployed automation systems, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer experience.
- Own end-to-end accountability for automation outcomes, from initial concept and design through deployment, launch, and ongoing optimization.
A day in the life
Your day will span the full automation lifecycle, moving fluidly between strategic thinking and tactical execution. You might start your morning reviewing long-term automation strategy for a new site format, then shift to providing design feedback on a hardware solution. Mid-day could find you unblocking a critical launch issue at a site going live next week, working across teams to resolve integration challenges. In the afternoon, you may dive into performance data from recently launched sites, identifying opportunities to improve maintenance protocols or operational efficiency. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with software engineering teams on system integrations, partner with business and operations leaders to align on priorities, and coach your multifunctional team to think big while executing with excellence. Your internal stakeholders span the organization—from site operations teams managing day-to-day performance, to product and business teams defining requirements. The problems you'll solve are equally diverse: designing scalable automation architectures, optimizing deployment timelines, improving system reliability post-launch, and building the technical capabilities that will transform how we serve grocery customers across our businesses.
About The Team

This is a team where your impact is measured not just in the technology you build, but in the millions of customers whose grocery shopping experience you'll transform.
